F53 – Replace ignition switch

Since we bought our Southwind a couple years ago,  every now and then when I attempted to start the motorhome, I’d turn the key and nothing. It would usually start on the second or third attempt.

Since I had the steering column tore apart to replace the bad shift lever OD switch,  I decide to spend $10 and replace the ignition switch.  The item is a WVE part# 1S6225, available from Rock Auto.

Once the steering column covers are removed (SEE SHIFT LEVER REPLACEMENT) , replacing the switch is very easy.

1) Disconnect the chassis battery.

2) On the left side of the column, remove the electrical connector from the switch. Use a socket wrench and unscrew the hold down bolt,  this will back the connector off of the switch.

3) On the right side,  remove the two torx screws that hold the switch to the column.

4) To install the new switch,  carefully align the pin into the column.  Then install the two screws.

5) Reinstall the connector, snug up the hold down bolt.

6) Reconnect the battery, test the switch.
