Been a busy year working on the Southwind

Prior to purchasing our Southwind,  I performed a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection so I had a good idea what was going to need attention.  Before jumping in and tackling the list,  I wanted to get a few miles under our belt to make sure nothing major needed attention.  I also added a few preventative maintenance items to the list, i.e. things like the fuel pump and sensors are pushing 20 years old, so in hopes of heading off failure,  I chose to replace them before they fail.  Most of these items are what I call low cost, high consequence type failure items..

We have a little over a year of usage under our belts and are very happy with the Southwind,  its going to be a keeper. So this year I spent a lot of time tackling that list of things that

Over the past 6 months I’ve tackled most of the list  and also added a few things to the TO-DO list.

  • Replace original frig with residential refrigerator
  • Install full sign wave inverter
  • Replace fuel pump / fuel filter
  • Repair broken exhaust manifold studs
  • install header exhaust system
  • Replace crankshaft / camshaft sensors
  • Install long tube header exhaust system
  • Install heat shields for exhaust system
  • Replace brake hoses, flush system
  • Replace radiator fan clutch
  • Replace spark plugs and COPs. Torque to 200 inch-lbs
  • Replace coach battery storage disconnect switch
  • Replace starter motor
  • Replace water pump and thermostat, flush system
  • Tint entry door window
  • Replace sofa bed with sofa Recliner
  • Repair bedroom mirrors.
  • Replace Transmission filters and flush transmission

  • Modify levelers so I can retract one leveler at a time
  • add ON-OFF switch for water pump in wet bay to disable water pump
  • rebuild transmission cooler pressure bypass valve
  • possibly replace radiator with version that has trans cooler

  1. Hi..Firstly – Holy Smokes man, you’re website is a lifesaver! Can’t thank you enough for ALL your hard work!

I have a 2000 Southwind 36T, looks identical to yours and in many ways – it is identical. I lost my foglight power! Can’t turn on. I have no idea what fuse powers them and how to trace the wires/fuses to fix them. Do you happen to know? I looked thru your schematics/fuse panels,…nothing mentions them!

    Thanks in advance!
