To tall toilet too tall for the tush

UPDATE July 2020:  When installing a new toilet,  make sure it rests completely on the platform and doesn’t hang over the edges.  We had to do a modification to the platform to ensure the toilet rested completely on the platform.  READ HERE.

The previous owner said they just replaced the toilet. It was a full height Thetford Aqua-Magic V.  There was one problem… It’s way too tall.

One of the very first things we noticed on our shakedown cruise,  the toilet was way, way to tall.  It was OK if you stood up to do your business,  but if you needed to sit down,  that required a step stool to climb up there.

from the floor, the seat is about 25 inches above the floor.

The toilet in the Southwind sits on a platform that’s 8 inches above the floor.  The toilet seat height of the Thetford toilet (full height) is about 17 inches.  This brings the seat height to about 25 inches above the floor.  The short version about 4 inches shorter with a height of about 13 inches.

Toilet removed

Removing the toilet is a fairly easy task.  Remove the two bolts on sides, disconnect the water line,  and the seat comes out.  Make sure the seal comes off the floor flange and nothing falls down into the black tank.

Height difference between low profile and full height

Installing the new toilet is just  the reverse,  make sure the seal is in place on the bottom of the toilet,  then center the toilet over the flange, and install the two bolt.  Hook up the water and your ready to go (no pun intended).

Low profile mounted, much better when sitting down.

The height is now about 21 inches above the floor,  much more comfortable and no step ladder required.

NOTE – I have a like new, less than a year old, full height Thetford Aqua-Magic V toilet for sale if anyone is interested.  Comes complete with all accessories that are unopened, in the bags
