Hood Alignment

When we bought the Southwind, the hood cover was not aligned and stuck out almost 1 inch at the top.  I inspected the mounts, bolts, etc and couldn’t find anything wrong.

The hinge part that mounts to the hood. I first tried shimming the hood side of the hinge to see if I moved the bottom out, this might move the top in. I used three washers between the hood and the lower bolts on the hinge mount no luck.  No good.

The hinge part that mounts to the cap. I then moved the chassis part of the hinge from the outside lip of the cap to the inside lip of the cap.  This effectively moved the entire hood backward about 1/2 inch.  PERFECT.   (almost)

The hood still needed to get moved up about 1/4 inch, but was at the maximum limit of the up/down adjustment. The hinge s have a slotted adjustment for up/down, so I made the slots 1/4 inch longer.  The hood now centers perfectly in the opening.

Also – the cams on the locks are now about 1/2 inch in front of the slot.  I need to get longer (deeper) cams, locks,  or modify the existing cams.

BEFORE – Hood sticks out almost 1 inch at the top
AFTER – Hood is now flush at the top and bottom.
BEFORE – Hinge mounted on outside of cap lip
AFTER – Hinged now mounted to the inside of the cap lip.

GRILL  The grill has pins on the bottom that fit onto holes on front cap.  The holes have rubber grommets in them that were dry, brittle, and one was missing.  A search I found some from McMaster Carr that would work,  so I ordered a bag.  1 bag has 100 grommets,  I need 6..  If anyone needs grommets for their grill,  send me a self addressed envelope and I’ll send you 6 grommets..
